In Germany Liebeskummer, or lovesickness, is a quasi-medical condition with recognisable symptoms, whilst in the UK, we have a tendency to not take maladies of the heart quite so seriously. This work is the result of an exploration into the catharsis in reparation and mending of objects, in particular the ‘broken heart’. Cast in lead and porcelain, these objects speak of the fragility, yet strength and endurance of the human heart, both physically and metaphorically.
